Gudrum Log Cabins - Roof Insulation (More Info)
Gudrum Log Cabins Roof Insulation Option
We are please to offer our Roof Insulation Option with this Log Cabin.
Our roof insulation is fitted on the OUTSIDE of the Log Cabin roof boards (ie build the cabin, fit the roof boards and then fit the insulation on top of the roof boards) with the felt or the felt shingle option being fitted on top of that. The facia boards and eaves edging boards are supplied with extra depth so that they can be raised to cover the edge of the insulation. On completion the insulation is completely hidden.
The real benefits of our Insulation are as follows:
The roof insulation that we supply is a specialist material that is specifically designed to work with Bitumen Felt Shingles and with Shed Felt. Anyone who has taken down an old shed will be aware that the shed felt always sticks to the roof. This is by design and is not accidental. Both shed felt and Bitumen Felt Shingles have a Bitumen adhesive in the body of the product which with the action of sunlight over time slowly melts and sticks to the surface below. The reason for this is that it takes out any flex and movement within the felt and thereby makes it very much more durable.
The Insulation that we supply is specifically designed to accomodate this adhesive. It is also designed in such a way that when fitted with reasonable care it does not indent with every nail hammered through it as most insulations would.
Gudrum Classics View:
In our view the roof insulation is a very good option on most double glazed Log Cabin especially when the building is to be used as an extension to the living area ie as a garden office log cabin, play room etc and used all year round. We recognise that it is not the cheapest option but because it is completely hidden when finished we feel it is one of the best options. However if budget is an issue we would suggest that you buy the Log cabin, try it without insulation - this is very often found to be adequate especially where the Cabin is going into a sheltered location, and if in the fullness of time you decide insulation is required then it can be fitted inside the Log Cabin between the roof beams and covered with either a light weight t&g board or similar.
NOTE: Nails are not Supplier to Fit the Insulation. 60mm Clout Nails should be sourced locally
